Abstract. Understanding the biomechanics of tissues and joints is critical for improvingtreatments for musculoskeletal injuries and diseases. In this seminar, I will provide an overviewof common tools for measuring tissue and joint biomechanics and explain two ongoing projectsin my lab. The first project is developing sensors to measure the contact forces and centers ofpressure within the knee. The second project is developing a handheld sensor to measure thetension in a ligament. I will cover the design of these sensors and our progress calibrating andvalidating them highlighting the importance of mechanics throughout these processes.
