Core College of Engineering facilities
In addition to the myriad faculty laboratories, the College of Engineering maintains several core user facilities that offer a suite of world-class specialized instrumentation and capabilities for faculty, staff, student and external partner use.
-
Offers facilities for tissue culture, sample preparation and microscopy.
-
Offers instruments for analyzing metals, major elements, and organic chemicals.
-
Shared lab space within the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department (CEE) with instrumentation for the analysis of both liquid and solid samples (from volatile organics to sample characterization).
-
The Design Innovation Lab has over 25,000 square feet of makerspace facilities within Wendt Commons and Engineering Centers Building, equipped with expert design support, fee-for-service fabrication, millions of dollars of high-tech equipment, and resources to help you bring your course, research and personal projects to life.
-
Contains a NEC 1.7 MV tandem accelerator with research focus on radiation damage of materials.
-
Over 70 instruments in cleanroom space. Services include lithography, deposition, packaging, assembly, thermal processing, and plasma etching.
-
The center contains sophisticated microscopy and analysis instruments for characterizing materials and nanostructures.
-
The lab is equipped with nearly 50 instruments for polymer synthesis and characterization of physical and mechanical properties of polymers and other materials.
-
Offers machine tools, training, advising and support needed to machine and manufacture projects in metal, plastic and wood.
-
A 1 MW TRIGA research reactor, called the University of Wisconsin Nuclear Reactor or UWNR. The UWNR is operated as a teaching and research reactor since 1961.
-
A suite of shared instrumentation facilities providing equipment, facilities and expertise in microelectronics, nano-fabrication technology, electron microscopy, micro-analysis and soft materials characterization.
-
Provides equipment and technical support for materials testing, structural testing and vibrations measurements.
