June 10, 2024 New Mechanical Engineering Faculty: Thomas Breunung Written By: Caitlin Scott Departments: Mechanical Engineering Categories: Faculty Thomas Breunung will join the Department of Mechanical Engineering as an Assistant Professor in January 2025! Breunung will establish the Dynamics, Structures, and Data (DSD) Lab at UW-Madison. He and his team will investigate motions, trajectories, and vibrations in engineering and beyond using a blend of analytical studies, computational approaches, and experiments. The DSD Lab integrates applied mathematics and physics with cutting-edge data science technologies and a problem-solving engineering mindset. Some example applications include airplane wing vibrations, traveling waves, and biological systems. Breunung earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from ETH Zurich in Switzerland in 2020. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park.
