In Spring/Fall 2024, the Department of Mechanical Engineering advanced more than 360 students into the Mechanical Engineering (324 students) and Engineering Mechanics (72 students) bachelor’s degree. This milestone highlights students hard work and dedication to learn technical knowledge presented in their general courses, while maintaining specific GPA requirements. With these courses under their belt, students can now move forward with more advanced and specialized courses in their degree.

We are happy to share this group also saw a big jump in female progression numbers. Data shows a 22.9% increase from previous years.

On Monday, September 9th, the department celebrated these students’ success by hosting our 3rd annual progression celebration. Students heard about department and curriculum updates, learned how they can compliment what they learn in their classes by getting involved, and got sage academic and development advice from six student panelists.

Congratulations to our 2024 progression class. We are excited to watch you continue to grow, advance in your majors and to support you along the way!

Newly progressed students heard from faculty about curriculum/department updates, undergrad research opportunities, and how they can get involved.
Upperclassmen student panelists offered sage academic and development advice on how to make the most of student’s time at UW.
Upperclassmen talked with students about their experience conducting research in faculty labs.
After the presentation, students were invited to attend the Welcome Back Ice Cream Social to celebrate their progression.
Do you think we ate enough ice cream?!
