Arnold named Beckwith-Bascom Professor

In recognition of his outstanding research, innovative teaching, outreach activities and leadership in guiding undergraduate education, materials science and engineering faculty member Mike Arnold was appointed Beckwith-Bascom Professor. Bascom professorships honor faculty members from across the UW-Madison campus for balanced contributions to teaching, research and service. Arnold, who joined MS&E in 2008, is a world expert in the fabrication of carbon nanotubes and in particular, his group has made major breakthroughs in graphene synthesis. In addition to his research, Arnold is the associate chair for undergraduate studies in materials science and engineering and his group has developed and led multiple summer camps and outreach workshops for middle and high school students.
