Michael Arnold, the Beckwith-Bascom Professor in materials science and engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is one of 11 faculty members at the university to receive a 2024-2025 Kellett Mid-Career Award.

Professor Michael Arnold

The award supports faculty members promoted to tenured positions seven to 20 years ago who have made key research contributions in their fields.

Arnold is an expert in synthesizing, processing, growing and assembling carbon nanomaterials—including carbon nanotubes and nanoribbons—for use in next-generation microelectronics and energy applications. He is co-founder and chief technical officer of SixLine Semiconductor, a company that is commercializing breakthroughs in carbon nanotube processing developed in his lab.

The award is named for the late William R. Kellett, a former president of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation board of trustees and president of Kimberly-Clark Corporation. It is intended to provide support and encouragement to faculty at a critical stage of their careers and comes with $75,000 to be spent over five years.
