Biehler receives ONR grant for electromagnetic shielding project

Michael Biehler, an assistant professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will lead a project funded by the Office of Naval Research to combine quantum sensing with 4D materials for electromagnetic shielding.

The three-year, $600,000 grant, with Biehler as the sole principal investigator, aims to enable shielding systems capable of sensing and adapting to their environment in real time to protect electronic systems from electromagnetic threats.

Biehler’s research bridges 4D printing, manufacturing systems and machine learning.
