Booske honored for plasma science achievements

John Booske, the Duane H. and Dorothy M. Bluemke Professor and Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor in electrical and computer engineering, has received the 2018 Plasma Science and Applications Award from the IEEE Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society. Booske, who will receive the award at the 45th IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science in June 2018, joins a distinguished group of 30 past recipients from around the world, including two UW-Madison engineering colleagues. With the honor, the society is recognizing Booske’s seminal contributions to vacuum electronics and microelectronics. His pioneering research includes the intersection of plasma and materials science, sheet electron beams, advanced cathodes, microwave and millimeter-wave source development, and their interactions with materials. Booske, who has conducted research in plasma science and vacuum electronics for more than three decades, also is passionate about providing opportunities to students and colleagues through education and mentorship, and is a recognized leader in developing, implementing and advancing new, active ways for educating engineering students.
