Chloe Dedic selected as AIAA Associate Fellow

Chloe E. Dedic, associate professor of mechanical engineering at UW–Madison, has been selected as a member of the Class of 2027 AIAA Associate Fellows by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

AIAA’s Associate Fellow grade recognizes members who have made important contributions to aeronautics or astronautics through engineering, scientific work, research or service. Only 17% of AIAA members are ever selected for this distinction.

Dedic was recognized for “pioneering laser-based diagnostics for extreme reacting and nonequilibrium flows including scramjet environments, and for outstanding student mentoring and service to AIAA.”

Dedic joined the UW–Madison Department of Mechanical Engineering in August 2026 from the University of Virginia. Her research focuses on improving the understanding of combustion and nonequilibrium systems through advanced laser-based measurements, with applications in clean energy utilization, aerospace propulsion and hypersonic aerothermodynamics.

In addition to her research, Dedic has made student mentoring and professional service an important part of her career. She has mentored undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students, many of whom have gone on to careers in aerospace research and national defense. She has also served the AIAA community for eight years through the Aerodynamic Measurement Technology Technical Committee, including as technical discipline chair for the 2024 SciTech Forum. She recently was elected vice chair of the committee.

Dedic and the other members of the Class of 2027 AIAA Associate Fellows will be recognized at the AIAA Associate Fellows Induction Ceremony and Dinner in January 2027, during the AIAA SciTech Forum in Orlando, Florida.
