April 17, 2023 Competition Success Continues for UW Human Powered Vehicle Club Written By: Caitlin Scott Departments: Mechanical Engineering Categories: Students|Undergraduate Congratulations to the UW Human Powered Vehicle club team on another triumph! April 14-15, 2023, the team competed at the ASME eHPVC competition hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. The goal of the competition was to create a bike that can replace a car in a city setting. Students competed against 10 other universities in two main events: a 2.5-hour endurance race and a design competition. The endurance race was on a half mile course with various obstacles including a hairpin turn, speed bump, slalom, and an off-road rumble section. Over the course of the 2.5 hour race the UW team completed 60 laps totaling approximately 32 miles; 8 laps more than the closest competitor. Adding to the success of their steering corner castings that have already won the 2023 Casting of the year, they were able to win the design competition Innovation Award. This was the first time the Team has competed since 2019. Team members who traveled to Virginia included: Calvin Greene, Lincoln Devine, Dylan Zinkgraf, Andrew Nasar, Kevin Macauley, Greta Hein, and Teekay Kowalewski.
