April 12, 2023 Dan Thoma named Vilas Associate Written By: Jason Daley Departments: Materials Science & Engineering Categories: Awards|Faculty Dan Thoma Dan Thoma, a professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is among the winners of the 2023-24 Vilas Associates Competition. The competition is open to UW-Madison tenure-track and tenured faculty within 20 years of their tenure date. It recognizes outstanding new and ongoing research of the highest quality and significance and provides two years of flexible research funding. Thoma is a leader in the field of metal additive manufacturing, or 3D printing. His work focuses on alloying theory, the thermodynamics and kinetics of phase transformations and property response as a function of microstructural evolution. See the full list of recipients.
