Dr. Bahia (pictured center) joined the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department in 1996 after serving at the Asphalt Institute and Penn State University for several years. During his 26-year career with the College of Engineering, Dr. Bahia has mentored 37 PhD students, while also leading teaching and research on pavement materials and design, with an emphasis on modified asphalts and asphalt mixtures. Dr. Bahia shares insights and memories from his career with members of the CEE community during a recent gathering. Among his many achievements are over 170 peer-reviewed publications, credit on three patents, and the establishment of the UW Modified Asphalt Research Center (MARC) in 2009, where he has served as director ever since. Many of his former students are also industry leaders throughout Wisconsin and around the world. During a recent Department gathering, Hussain shared that his proudest accomplishments are the lifelong friendships that he has built with Badger faculty, staff, and students, including CEE Chair Bill Likos (pictured top right) and Jeffrey Russel (pictured top left), vice provost for Lifelong Learning and dean of the Division of Continuing Studies. The CEE community is thankful for all that Hussain has done to support generations of Badger Engineers during his time on campus, and we wish him well in the new chapter ahead.
