January 28, 2025 ECE’s Gao receives IEEE AP-S doctoral research grant Written By: Allyson Crowley Departments: Electrical & Computer Engineering Categories: Awards|Graduate|Research|Students Yuki Gao, a first-year PhD student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, was selected to receive a 2024 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (IEEE AP-S) Doctoral Research Grant. The selection committee awarded Gao the $5,000 grant for her high-quality research proposal. ECE Assistant Professor Haihan Sun Gao’s research lies in the field of microwave subsurface sensing and non-destructive testing. She shared, “For this research, we focus on the development and implementation of ultrawideband polarization-rotating ground penetrating radar systems for subsurface sensing.” Gao is advised by and works in the lab of ECE Assistant Professor Haihan Sun. According to the IEEE AP-S website, “The field of interest of the Society includes antennas, including analysis, design, development, measurement, standards, and testing; radiation, propagation, and the interaction of electromagnetic waves with discrete and continuous media; and applications and systems pertinent to antennas, propagation, and sensing, such as applied optics, millimeter-and submillimeter-wave techniques, antenna signal processing and control, radio astronomy, bioelectromagnetics, and propagation and radiation aspects of terrestrial and space-based communication, including wireless, mobile, satellite, and telecommunications at all frequencies.” Top photo: Yuki Gao
