Tessa Haldes, an electrical and computer engineering PhD student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison working in the lab of Philip Dunham Reed Professor Susan Hagness, was selected to receive a 2023 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society doctoral research grant. The $4,000 grants are given to up to ten PhD students each year and are intended to encourage students to pursue a career in the area of electromagnetics.

Haldes studies applied electromagnetics including techniques to guide and improve non-invasive microwave hyperthermia, a cancer treatment in which tissues are heated to temperatures that can kill cancer cells.
