In recognition of his outstanding theoretical and experimental work, the thin film division of the American Vacuum Society honored Materials Science and Engineering Assistant Professor Jason Kawasaki with the Paul H. Holloway Young Investigator Award. In his research, Kawasaki investigates the subtle atomic-level structural changes that occur at the interfaces between two different materials—which are vitally important for creating semiconductors or advanced electronic devices. The award consists of a cash prize, a certificate of achievement, and an honorary lecture at the American Vacuum Society International Symposium, to be held in Long Beach, California, in October 2018.
