On April 29, 2026, Grainger Dean Devesh Ranjan hosted a celebration at which he recognized engineering faculty and staff for outstanding daily work that shapes the heart of our college.

Nathan Jung, teaching faculty I in the Technical Communication Program, received the James G. Woodburn Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

Jung is a widely admired instructor whose courses consistently rank among the most popular in the Technical Communication Program. Students value not only his clarity and commitment to their learning, but also the way in which he connects complex technical, ethical and civics ideas to their developing professional identities.

In addition to his strength and adaptability as an instructor, Jung is a leader in teaching innovation. He is recognized among the university’s expert voices on artificial intelligence in education. In class, he collaborates with students to develop sound teaching methods around the technology, and he shares these best practices broadly through lectures, workshops and soon, his book, The Process of Generative AI Writing. In our college, he has been active in the Engineering For All community of practice for teaching and learning and now leads its pathway on AI.

Jung also devotes extensive time to mentoring students through scholarship, fellowship, grant and graduate school applications, further helping to prepare them for career success.
