Linderoth continues naval optimization research

Jeff Linderoth, the Harvey D. Spangler Professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will lead a project to build an automated planning tool to support complex decision-making in Maritime Operations Centers in the United States Navy.

The research, funded with a three-year, nearly $700,000 grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR), leverages Linderoth’s expertise in advanced mathematical optimization tools, such as integer programming and stochastic programming. It builds upon Linderoth’s earlier work, also funded by ONR, on tools now being tested and deployed in classified environments.
