April 8, 2026 Linderoth earns ONR grant to optimize decision-making aids Written By: Staff Departments: Industrial & Systems Engineering Categories: Faculty|Grants|Research Jeffrey Linderoth, the Harvey D. Spangler Professor of industrial and systems engineering, will lead a new project funded by the Office of Naval Research to build automated decision tools to support national security and operational readiness at U.S. Navy maritime operations centers. A three-year, $1.2 million grant will support Linderoth’s work creating mathematically-sound software tools that can serve as decision-making aids. In part, the tools will more effectively account for the raft of uncertainties that factor into maritime logistics and operations. Linderoth’s research focuses on modeling and solving real-world, large-scale optimization problems.
