Tony McDonald and Yonatan Mintz, assistant professors in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, are among the University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers to earn funding in the latest round of the American Family Funding Initiative, a unique sponsored research partnership between American Family Insurance and UW–Madison through the Data Science Institute.

The duo will address barriers to driver feedback programs by developing a behavioral analytics algorithm to personalize feedback and optimize safety nudges. The goal of this project is to create a novel system that can improve driving safety, and then validate findings through an on-road telematics study.

American Family Insurance has committed $10 million over 10 years to support UW–Madison research with potential to fuel discovery in data science, while creating value for industry and society.
