November 6, 2023 Mechanical Engineering fall 2023 scholarship celebration Written By: Caitlin Scott Departments: Mechanical Engineering Categories: Students|Undergraduate The Department of Mechanical Engineering had another record breaking year of philanthropic support for student scholarships, awarding $884,980 as undergraduate scholarships to 285 undergraduate students in the mechanical engineering and engineering mechanics degree programs! This is a $130,000 increase over the previous record total awarded by ME and the College of Engineering to ME students last fall. At our Scholarship Night event on October 12, we gathered with Mechanical Engineering & Engineering Mechanics students, their families and friends, and some of the donors who make it all possible. Special event guests included John Nelson representing the Douglas T. Reindl Scholarship, Burzoe Ghandhi and Jaal Ghandhi representing the Nancy F. Ghandhi Women in Mechanical Engineering Scholarship, Patricia Murphy representing the Dwayne D. Murphy Scholarship, and Leslie Dressler representing the Kris Dressler STAR Scholarship. We extend our appreciation to everyone involved in our scholarship processes, especially the many donors, past and present, who were unable to be with us in person. Additional thanks to the Undergraduate Program Committee who took the time to evaluate the scholarship applications and award the scholarships, namely Peter Adamczyk, Franklin Miller, and Sage Kokjohn. Reindl Scholarship recipient Dominic Morand Rivers Students from the UW chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) shared about their experience with their student organization and their journey to the Spaceport America Cup. AIAA is one of the student groups supported by donations to the department. Patricia Murphy presented the Dwayne D. Murphy Scholarship to Lindsey Fiedler Jaal & Burzoe Ghandhi with recipients of the Nancy F. Ghandhi Women in Mechanical Engineering Scholarship Prof. Xiaoping Qian with recipients of the Faustin-Prinz Undergraduate Research Fellowship awards Students Lacey LaMere & Marisa Marohl shared about their experiences with the Women in Mechanical Engineering (WME) mentorship program.
