NAMRI/SME honors Duffie with lifetime service award

Mechanical Engineering Professor Emeritus Neil Duffie has received the 2017 North American Manufacturing Research Institution of SME (NAMRI/SME) Outstanding Lifetime Service Award. The award recognizes Duffie for his long-term dedication and contributions to NAMRI/SME.

Duffie received his PhD in mechanical engineering in 1980, master’s degree in engineering in 1974 and bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1972, all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His main research interests are dynamics and robustness of production planning and control, distributed system control and manufacturing process automation.

Duffie is a fellow of ASME, CIRP and SME. He has served on the Council of CIRP, as chair of its committee of U.S. fellows, as chair of its scientific technical committee for production systems and organizations, and on its editorial committee. Duffie is a past president of SME (2008). In 2008, he was the Mercator guest at the University of Bremen, Germany, and has been a visiting researcher at several other universities.

Duffie received his award at the annual North American Manufacturing Research Conference held by NAMRI/SME at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in June 2017.
