Students and faculty shine at annual conference

Several members of the UW-ISyE community traveled to Montreal in May for the annual conference of the Institute for Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE).

The conference provides a great opportunity to share research, learn about cutting-edge advancements, and network with peers who share a systems-first approach to solving important societal problems. The conference includes research talks, poster sessions, keynote speeches and more, and covers numerous tracks. Among those honored were the UW-Madison IISE student chapter, which was recognized with the GOLD award at the annual event.

Individual conference honors and presentations from this year included:

  • 2024 Outstanding Young Investigator Award, Manufacturing & Design (M&D) Division: Assistant Professor Hantang Qin
  • Finalist, Quality Control & Reliability Engineering (QCRE) Best Student Paper Competition: PhD Student Vipul Bansal, with Professor Shiyu Zhou
  • Runner-up, QCRE Best Poster Competition: PhD Student Vipul Bansal, with Professor Shiyu Zhou and Professor Young Chen (University of Iowa)
  • NSF 2024 IISE Annual Conference Manufacturing Student Travel Award: PhD Student Vipul Bansal
  • Oral presentation – “On Locating Prescription Drug Collection Boxes”: PhD students Monica Rico and Veronica White, with Professor Laura Albert
  • Oral presentation – “Alternative Police Response Models to Crisis Calls”: PhD Student Veronica White, with Professor Laura Albert
