November 15, 2022 The Engineering Design Research Lab Written By: Caitlin Scott Departments: Mechanical Engineering Categories: Faculty|Research The Engineering Design Research Lab (EDRL) opened in Mechanical Engineering this semester! The UW-Madison EDRL is directed by Jay and Cynthia Ihlenfeld Associate Professor Kate Fu and was founded at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2014. EDRL researchers strive to support and enhance design innovation and creativity. Their approach is interdisciplinary and mixed methodological, focusing on understanding and supporting design innovation through design cognition research, methodological and computational design support development. The EDRL is located in ME building room 2054. The focus of Prof. Fu’s lab is a new and unique direction for the ME department. Her work meets the growing student interest in human centered design. Additionally, she’s actively updating existing ME courses with design content and developing new technical electives on engineering design for both senior level undergraduates and early career graduate students.
