February 10, 2023 Vehicle Club designs winter-ready 3-wheel bike Written By: Caitlin Scott Departments: Mechanical Engineering Categories: Students|Undergraduate Each year the UW-Madison Human Powered Vehicle Team designs and builds a bicycle-like conveyance and competes in an American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)-sponsored competition among schools. These vehicles are now allowed to be electric-assist. The Madison team isn’t the only group to design, build & compete in ASME-sponsored competitions, but they may be the only ones to test their vehicle on a frozen lake. Thanks to team president Teekay Kowalewski and faculty advisor Prof. Frank Pfefferkorn for sharing video of their recent test drive on Lake Mendota.
