Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering Laura Albert has earned the 2019 Award for the Advancement of Women in Operations Research and Management Sciences from Women in Operations Research and Management Science, a forum within the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.

Albert, an expert in operations research and its application to important topics such as homeland security, emergency response, healthcare, cyber security and more, has prioritized mentoring students and supporting colleagues to improve representation in the field. Over half of her advisees have been women, and she previously directed the Graduate Engineering Research Scholars program, which seeks to increase the number of underrepresented minorities pursuing PhDs.

Albert is a former president of the forum, which has presented the award annually since 2006. She also helped draft INFORMS’ diversity statement as a member of its ad hoc committee on diversity. Albert accepted her award at the 2019 INFORMS annual meeting in Seattle.
