These annual awards are highly competitive and finance the purchase of research equipment, enabling universities to perform state-of-the-art research that augments current and develops new capabilities. For the fiscal year 2023 competition, the program received 522 proposals requesting $171 million in total funding. For Li, this award will provide $300,000 for his group to purchase a GPU (graphics processing unit) cluster for high-performance computing and deep learning related to his research on molecular design of high‐temperature polymers.
