Shiyu Zhou, a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Wisconsin, will lead a project to develop new methods for monitoring product quality and machine health in multistage manufacturing systems.

The three-year research project will be funded through a more than $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation. It’s a collaboration with researchers from Rutgers University and the University of Iowa, along with industrial partners whose manufacturing systems will serve as test cases.

Zhou specializes in modeling and analyzing sensing data to improve quality and productivity in complex manufacturing systems.
