Zongfu Yu, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is included on the Clarivate Web of Science Highly Cited Researchers list for 2024.

In total, 6,636 researchers from 1,200 institutions in 59 countries are included on the list for significant influence in specific fields or impact across several fields. To determine the 2024 honorees, the Web of Science analyzed papers published over the last 11 years, determining which authors ranked in the top 1% of cited papers.

Yu was selected in the cross-disciplinary category. He has appeared on the list every year since 2018.

Yu’s optics and photonics research spans the areas of computational classical and quantum electrodynamics, quantum optics, visual perception, topological photonics, integrated photonics, and radiative cooling. He is a Fellow of Optica and recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award and DARPA Young Faculty Award. He is an inventor on more than 10 patents and patent applications and a co-founder of Flexcompute.

“We celebrate these Highly Cited Researchers whose exceptional and community-wide influence shapes the future of science, technology and academia globally,” Bar Veinstein, president of academia and government at Clarivate says. “We honor not just their scientific achievement but their impact on driving innovation and addressing wider societal challenges to help transform our world.”

In total, 15 researchers across the University of Wisconsin-Madison appear on the 2024 edition of the list.
