Bin Ran

Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor

Dr. Bin Ran is the Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor and Director of ITS Program at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Dr. Ran is an expert in ITS and Connected Autonomous Mobility (CCM). Dr. Ran is the author of two leading textbooks on transportation planning and operations, and six books on intelligent highways; the author of over 850 scientific articles. He is the recipient of Wilbur S. Smith Distinguished Transportation Educator Award from ITE in 2018. He has more than 200 patents or patents pending in the US, China, Japan, Europe, and other countries. Dr. Ran serves as the Chair for Committee on Connected Autonomous Mobility, International Road Federation (IRF), which serves as the forum of global collaboration for more than 180 countries. He leads a Task Force of Transportation Research Board (TRB) to develop system architecture and development roadmaps for vehicle-highway automation in the US. He serves as the Chairman of the Faculty Committee, the major technical committee for World Transport Convention (WTC), which has more than 30,000 participants from over 160 countries annually.
