Xiao Kuang

Assistant Professor

Dr. Xiao Kuang is an Assistant Professor at the Polymer Engineering Center in the Mechanical Engineering Department.
Dr. Kuang earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chinese Academy of Science and had his postdoc training at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital & Harvard Medical School. He leads the Adaptive Materials and Advanced Manufacturing (AM2) Lab, focusing on the design and additive manufacturing (or 3D printing) of functional soft (bio)materials/systems. The AM2 lab studies the functional responses of (bio)polymeric systems to external stimuli (such as heat, light, chemical, mechanical, and acoustic fields), and establishes a high-quality synthesis/process-structure-property relationship in advanced manufacturing. Leveraging adaptive polymer design, additive manufacturing techniques, ultrasound technology, modeling/machine-learning tools, and bioengineering approaches, the AM2 Lab seeks to advance the transformative design and manufacturing of multifunctional devices and (bio)systems. The applications extend to marine, aerospace, soft robots, biomedical devices, drug delivery, and tissue engineering to solve societal challenges in sustainability and healthcare.
