The United States Office of Naval Research has awarded Jeff Linderoth, David Gustafson Department Chair and Harvey D. Spangler Professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a $416,547 grant to examine and improve the use of mathematical models in naval defense.
In the three-year project, Linderoth will apply several mathematical optimization tools to tactical decision-making against potential attacks. It fits within Linderoth’s research portfolio of using modeling to address relevant, large-scale optimization questions.
