The distinction honors exceptional scientists under age 40 who have made substantial contributions to the chemical engineering computing and systems technology literature. Zavala, an innovative researcher who develops optimization models and decision algorithms for wide-ranging applications including renewable energy, agricultural systems and detecting airborne contaminants, will receive the prize and a commemorative plaque during the 2019 AIChE annual meeting.
