Leaders in Engineering Excellence and Diversity LEED Scholars Program

What is the LEED scholars program?

The Leaders in Engineering Excellence and Diversity (LEED) Scholars Program is a support program designed to foster a sense of community and belonging through networking, peer support, tutoring, advising, career counseling, and engagement in enrichment opportunities. Scholars participate in activities that develop their leadership abilities, interpersonal skills, and personal resilience. In addition to helping students thrive academically and professionally, the LEED Scholars Program offers a competitive scholarship for students with limited financial resources who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities and potential to make a positive impact on their communities and society.

Supported by the Engineering Student Center and scholarship donations from individuals and corporate partners, LEED Scholars are a part of a community of undergraduates who come together at community meetings each month. Community meetings include workshops, presentations from industry partners, panels, and various activities that help students build competence and skills to be an ethical engineer. While community meetings are attended by all LEED Scholars, the meetings are open to all undergraduate engineering students.

Eligibility

Students in LEED who demonstrate financial need are eligible to receive an annually renewable financial scholarship. Approximately 40 incoming students are welcomed to the LEED Scholars Program each Fall. Scholarship awards range from $1,500 annually to full tuition. Selection is based on students’ UW admissions application, including academic merit, extracurricular activities, community service, leadership qualities, application essays and letters of recommendation. No additional scholarship application is required.

Attention! To be considered for the LEED Scholars Program, you MUST complete a UW-Madison admissions application and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) to UW-Madison. For more information, refer to the Office of Student Financial Aid website.
