Written By: Tom Ziemer

Justin Boutilier and Carla Michini, both assistant professors of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will receive a best paper award at the 19th International Conference on the Integration of Constraint Programming, Artificial Intelligence, and Operations Research (CPAIOR) in June 2022.

Boutilier, Michini and PhD student Zachary Zhou will be honored for their paper “Shattering Inequalities for Learning Optimal Decision Trees,” in which they detail a new and more effective mixed-integer programming approach for learning optimal decision trees. Decision trees are commonly employed in machine learning applications.

The CPAIOR conference will take place June 20-23, 2022 in Los Angeles.
