Chemical engineering undergraduate award winners

Earlier this year, four chemical and biological engineering students were honored at the 2024 Chancellor’s Undergraduate Awards Ceremony on May 3rd for various awards. The whole department is excited to see what they do this upcoming semester!

Sophomore Research Fellowship

The Sophomore Research Fellowship provides $2,500 to the student recipient and $500 to the faculty project advisor to work in collaboration on research projects. Two chemical engineering students received this award for the 2024-25 academic year.

Alexandra (Allie) Ma

Ma received the award with project manager Yoel René Cortés-Peña, both work with Baldovin-DaPra Professor Victor Zavala in his lab. Ma won the award for her project: Evaluating Economic and Environmental Sustainability of Oleochemical Production from Dairy Waste project.

Caleb Youngwerth

Youngwerth received the award with Conway Assistant Professor Rose Cersonsky for his project: Harnessing Molecular Simulation and the DLVO Potential to Engineer New Battery Technologies.


Hilldale Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowship

The 2024-2025 Wisconsin Hilldale Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowship provides $3,000 to the student recipient and $1,000 to the faculty project advisor to offset costs of research

Brian Choi

Undergraduate Kyuhyeok (Brian) Choi received the fellowship with Richard L. Antoine Professor George Huber. Choi will be continuing his research in catalytic approaches to produce sorbic acid, a food preservative as described in the Kyuhyeok Choi receives undergraduate award post.

Sirinada Chanthachaiwat

Chanthachaiwat received the fellowship with Duane and Dorothy Bluemke Assistant Professor Siddarth Krishna for his project: Designing Non-Precious Metals for Renewable Hydrogen Storage in Liquid Carriers
