ECE faculty and students win conference awards

A paper co-authored by Umit Yusuf Ogras, an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Sumit Mandal, a spring 2022 PhD graduate, received the best paper award at the 2022 International Conference on Compilers, Architectures, and Synthesis for Embedded Systems (CASES) held in Mexico City in August, 2022.

The paper is titled “SWAP: A Server-scale Communication-aware Chiplet-based Manycore PIM Accelerator.” Other authors include Harsh Sharma, Jana Doppa and Partha Pande at Washington State University.

A team of PhD students including Feida Chen, Sangwhee Lee and Ken Chen, along with their advisory team of Professor Bulent Sarlioglu and Professor Emeritus Thomas Jahns, won the second place award at the student demonstration hardware competition at the 2022 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Expo in Detroit, Michigan in early October. Their submission was entitled “High power density integrated motor traction drives using WBG-based current source inverter.”
