Engineering faculty earn Vilas professorships and awards

Three faculty members of the University of Wisconsin–Madison College of Engineering have received Vilas professorships and awards. The honors celebrate extraordinary members of the UW-Madison faculty and are supported by the estate of professor, U.S. senator and UW Regent William F. Vilas (1840-1908).

Irena Knezevic, the Patricia and Michael Splinter Professor in electrical and computer engineering, is one of 17 faculty named a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professorship. The honor recognizes distinguished scholarship as well as standout efforts in teaching and service. The professorship provides five years of flexible funding.

Adrien Couet, an associate professor in engineering physics, and Daniel Ludois, the Jean van Bladel Associate Professor in electrical and computer engineering, are among six faculty to receive Vilas Faculty Early Career Investigator Awards. The award recognizes research and teaching excellence in faculty who are relatively early in their careers, providing flexible research funding for three years.
