Dominic Gross, a Dugald C. Jackson Assistant Professor in electrical and computer engineering, is one of 12 recipients of the 2025 Vilas Faculty Early Career Investigator Award, which honors University of Wisconsin-Madison faculty who are still relatively early in their careers.

Gross, who joined ECE in 2020, works on the electrical grid’s transition from centralized power generation, like coal-powered plants, to distributed renewable generation, like wind and solar energy. In particular, he is developing a control and analysis framework to guide the deployment of grid-forming power electronics that will help synchronize and stabilize the power grid as more renewable energy is added.

The Vilas Faculty Early Career Investigator Award recognizes research and teaching excellence and provides flexible research funding for three years. Vilas awards are supported by the estate of professor, U.S. Senator and UW Regent William F. Vilas.
