Hicks and Schreier named Negative Emissions Science Fellows

The Research Corporation for Science Advancement (RCSA) has named two University of Wisconsin-Madison engineers Negative Emissions Science Fellows for 2020. Civil and Environmental Engineering Assistant Professor Andrea Hicks and Richard H. Soit Assistant Professor in Chemical and Biological Engineering Marcel Schreier are among early career faculty from around the country selected to participate in the inaugural Negative Emissions Science conference to be held virtually November 5-6, 2020.

The conference is part of RCSA’s Scialog series, which brings together early career faculty to focus on scientific challenges of global significance. The goal is to create a community of researchers and foster discussion and collaboration on untested ideas under the guidance of senior scientists. Each year during the multi-year initiatives, the fellows meet to discuss their ideas and progress.

The Negative Emissions Science group is focusing on scalable solutions to remove carbon dioxide from the air and oceans to help slow climate change. Such technologies still require major scientific breakthroughs to be feasible, something the group hopes the Scialog project can help accelerate.
