On April 16, 2024, Dean Ian Robertson held an event to recognize engineering faculty and staff for outstanding contributions. Rob Kohlhepp, director of Computer Aided Engineering, received the Inclusion, Equity and Diversity Award.

Within the college, campus and Big Ten information technology community, Kohlhepp has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to inclusion, equity and diversity principles. This dedication is particularly evident in his support for women in information technology. Kohlhepp plays an active role in both the campus and Big Ten Academic Alliance “Women in IT” groups. Within his own unit, his actions reflect his commitment to inclusion, equity and diversity and he has created a culture in which everyone feels valued and respected. He expresses appreciation for the value diversity adds to leadership roles. He seeks to eliminate bias from hiring processes. He regularly recognizes the contributions of his female direct reports, while at the same time supporting all staff in taking charge of their responsibilities. He also promotes self-care and work-life balance among all staff on his team. On a personal level, Kohlhepp consistently seeks and takes advantage of professional development opportunities that are directly tied to inclusion, equity and diversity core principles.
