Kaibo Liu, a professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will lead a new research project to develop artificial intelligence techniques to aid predictive maintenance in military systems. The work is funded through a four-year, more than $700,000 grant from the United States Office of Naval Research.

Liu’s ISyE colleague Shiyu Zhou, a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor, is co-principal investigator on the project. The ISyE data science researchers will use data from systems and sensors to create and train models that can improve prognostic capabilities. The results could cut operation and maintenance costs while improving readiness.
