In fall 2022, the Mechanical Engineering department and the College of Engineering awarded a combined 234 students a total of $789,620 in scholarship funding. These awards came from 116 different scholarship funds and the amount is a $300,000 increase over recent years. This is the most our department has given out in the history of our program.

At our Scholarship Night event on October 13, we were joined by Mechanical Engineering students, their families and friends, and some of the donors who made this historic moment possible.

  • Sally Ferguson representing the Richard T. and Kathryn S. Voelz Scholarship
  • Sue and Tim Lebrun representing the Evelyn Knoke Kullerstrand Women and Diversity Scholarship
  • Emi Uyehara and Alan and Kathy Muirhead representing the Uyehara-Myers Scholarship Fund
  • Alan and Kathy Muirhead representing the Gary and Marlene Borman Scholarship
  • Fred Elder representing the Douglas T. Reindl Scholarship
  • William Holmberg representing the William Holmberg Fund for Mechanical Engineering
  • Amelia Cosgrove Thomas representing the Robert J. Troller and Amelia Cosgrove Thomas Scholarship Fund
  • Burzoe Ghandhi and Jaal Ghandhi representing the Nancy F. Ghandhi Women in Mechanical Engineering Scholarship
  • Kris and Leslie Dressler representing the Kris Dressler STAR Scholarship

We’re grateful to everyone involved in our scholarship processes, especially the many donors, past and present, who were unable to be with us in person. It’s especially exciting that the College of Engineering has focused $20 million of funding from the 2020 Grainger Foundation pledge on the Strategic Targeted Achievement Recognition (STAR) scholarship program. Additional thanks to our academic specialist Kassi Sprecher, our communications specialist Caitlin Scott and the Undergraduate Program Committee reviewed the many scholarship applications: Tom Krupenkin, Peter Adamczyk, Franklin Miller, and Sage Kokjohn.
