Mechanical Engineering Professor Emeritus Rolf Reitz received the 2016 Aurel Stodola Medal from the ETH Zurich Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT). Reitz, a pioneer in advanced engine research, delivered the Aurel Stodola Lecture at ETH Zurich on Nov. 9, 2016. His presentation focused on Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI), a new internal combustion engine concept that has been demonstrated to be a promising method to achieve high-efficiency, clean combustion engines.

“Rolf Reitz possesses the unique ability to transform the latest scientific findings into real tools,” says David Norris, professor of optical materials and head of D-MAVT. “This will potentially enable the industry to develop more environmentally friendly products and play an important role in solving socially relevant problems.”

The Aurel Stodola Lecture Series commemorates the personality and seminal contributions of former ETH Professor Aurel Stodola, whose work on applied thermodynamics in the early 20th century has guided many engineers and engineering developments worldwide.
