Congratulations to David Rothamer, Robert Lorenz Professor of Mechanical Engineering and director of the college’s Engine Research Center, on his appointment as the college’s new associate dean for research!

In the announcement, Dean Ian Robertson shared that Rothamer will provide leadership for the college’s research enterprise and develop policies and initiatives promoting the college’s research environment and effectiveness. He will collaborate closely with the college associate dean for research innovation, Oliver Schmitz, to further grow and strategically expand the college’s research enterprise. In his role, Rothamer also will oversee the college’s core facilities, develop faculty recruitment and retention cases, and represent the college on campus committees associated with sponsored research. Rothamer shared, “I was mainly drawn to the position by the opportunity to help continue to advance the research infrastructure and processes in the College of Engineering and by the opportunity to work with and learn from the great group of people in leadership at the College of Engineering and VCRGE office of the University.”

Rothamer’s research group is part of the Engine Research Center and focuses on development and application of laser diagnostics, studying fuel impacts on engine operation and combustion, development of combustion approaches for renewable fuels, and characterizing particulate matter properties and sources from combustion engines. “The additional responsibilities will impact how I run my research group,” Rothamer added. “I hope it helps me become a more efficient manager and researcher.”
