October 30, 2025 Society of Women Engineers Recognizes ME Alumna Amy Gelsinger Written By: Caitlin Scott Departments: Mechanical Engineering Categories: Alumni The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has recognized Amy Gelsinger, ME alumna and Department Advisory Board member, for her impact on the Society as well as the engineering community with the Esteemed Professional Member Award. Gelsinger accepted the award at SWE’s annual conference, WE25, held in October 2025 in New Orleans. The Esteemed Professional Member Award recognizes Gelsinger as a dedicated leader, mentor, and advocate for women in engineering, with over two decades of impactful service to the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). Since joining SWE in 2001 as an undergraduate at The Ohio State University, she has held leadership roles at the section, affiliate, and Society levels and is a Life Member. In her professional career, Gelsinger has made significant contributions to emissions reduction and environmental compliance. She holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madis on, where she specialized in diesel engine aftertreatment technologies. Gelsinger has worked in several companies from startups to multinational corporations and across industries. In each position, she was known for working across disciplines, building greater communities of practice to increase capability and improve outcomes. She developed a deep expertise in engines and emissions as a Performance Engineer at Caterpillar where she holds a patent on a novel aftertreatment system and played a key role in developing Tier 4 Final-compliant engines, achieving substantial reductions in NOx and particulate emissions. She then applied that knowledge as she expanded her business skill set through consulting at Trinity Consultants and KPMG, where she supported clients in environmental compliance and operational efficiency. These experiences enabled Gelsinger to pivot to working on decarbonization in the Energy Industry as a Product Manager at Flotek Industries in their Data Analytics business. Gelsinger has been a valued member of the ME Industrial Advisory Board since 2022. The ME IAB provides an external voice to the Department in support of its teaching, research and service missions. Specifically the IAB seeks to advise, assist, and advocate for the department. The IAB is comprised of industry professionals that are both alumni of the university and experienced in the engineering field. This award also recognizes Gelsinger’s continuing dedication to SWE’s mission – striving to highlight the impact and importance of women in engineering across the globe, leading by example, and demonstrating that a career in engineering can be a fulfilling, rewarding pursuit for women of any background. Congratulations, Amy, and thank you for all you do for women in STEM!
