The new UW-Madison Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Center and PANTHER Program hosted a joint workshop in Madison September 26-28, 2022. This was the first gathering for the group since 2019.

PANTHER is founded on collaboration and this ‘family reunion’ conference generated more than 11 new project ideas and several new papers to work on for the 80+ attendees from across the country. Bjorn Borgen Professor of Mechanical Engineering and PANTHER Director Christian Franck shared about PANTHER’s future and Office of Naval Research Program Manager Dr. Timothy Bentley shared about current Department of Defense trends.

Thank you to all organizers, including Alice Lux Fawzi and Jing Zhang, for putting together such a productive and collaborative event!

More about PANTHER
The PANTHER program (physics-based neutralization of threats to human tissues and organs) was formed to predict and prevent traumatic brain injuries in 2017. In 2020 and 2021, PANTHER was expanded with new projects to solidify and accelerate its mission and to provide a unique central hub for the Department of Defense for advanced detection and prevention of all TBIs including blunt and blast trauma. Overseen by Dr. Timothy Bentley at the Office of Naval Research, PANTHER is the most comprehensive and integrated team approach for addressing military-relevant TBI to date. PANTHER’s approach is centered on a synergistic multiscale integration of scientific discovery at the cellular and subcellular level to produce rapid commercial translation at the human level.
