November 18, 2025 Wang selected as a 2026 Materials Research Society Fellow Written By: Jason Daley Departments: Materials Science & Engineering Categories: Awards|Faculty The Materials Research Society has named Xudong Wang, the Grainger Institute for Engineering and Thomas and Suzanne Werner Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a 2026 MRS Fellow. Wang is cited “for pioneering contributions to nanogenerators and piezoelectric biomaterials for biomedical and sustainable energy applications, advancing implantable, flexible piezoelectric devices and eco-friendly materials, earning global recognition with high-scientific impact.” MRS Fellow is a lifetime appointment and the highest rank bestowed by the society on its members, recognizing outstanding contributions to the materials field, including research, leadership and service. Wang is one of 18 MRS members selected for the honor this year, which will be celebrated at the 2026 MRS Spring Meeting & Exhibit in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, in April. Wang joins a select group of researchers in the UW-Madison College of Engineering to receive the honor since its inception in 2008, including Professor Emeritus Max Lagally, Raymond R. Holton Chair for Engineering and Theodore H. Geballe Professor Chang-Beom Eom, IBM Bascom Professor John Perepezko, Professor Ian Robertson, and Professor Emeritus Thomas Kuech. Song Jin, a chemistry professor at UW-Madison, was also selected as a 2026 MRS Fellow.
