Erwin Berthier, PhD and Benjamin Casavant, PhD
Co-Founders of Tasso, Inc
Sponsored by Peter and Janet Tong and the Tong Family Foundation
Dr. Erwin Berthier and Dr. Benjamin Casavant are the Department of Biomedical Engineering’s 2024 Alumni Early Career Awardees. They are co-founders of Tasso, Inc., which is an emerging healthcare technology company that is transforming the traditional blood collection paradigm with a patient centric approach. Screening participants is a major bottleneck for drug development, often leading to trial delays and high screen failure rates. Tasso revolutionizes the enrollment process by replacing time consuming, labor-intensive clinic visits with convenient, automated prescreening testing at scale through a virtually painless blood draw experience from home. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Tasso is privately held and funded by grants, investments, and co-development deals with various industry leaders. They recently accomplished a huge milestone and shipped their one millionth device. As of December 2022, Tasso completed an oversubscribed $100 million Series B financing round, bringing the total to $131 million.
