Roger Harrison
On October 30, 2017, Roger Harrison (MS ’69, PhD ’75) will be inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame at a ceremony held at the University of Central Oklahoma. The award recognizes individuals whose achievement and leadership in scholarship, teaching, research, administration, staff support, outreach and public service have brought honor and distinction to higher education in the state of Oklahoma. Since 1994, the Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society has honored more than 200 men and women as inductees.
Harrison worked in the chemical industry before becoming a professor at the University of Oklahoma. Much of his research has focused on developing new types of proteins for the treatment of cancer that are highly selective for tumor cells, with the goal of reducing the side effects associated with systemic chemotherapy. Harrison has co-authored a textbook, Bioseparations Science and Engineering, whose second edition was published in 2015.
Earlier this year, Harrison was also inducted as a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), an honor awarded to the top two percent of medical and biological engineers who are considered pioneers in innovation and discovery.
Hilldale Professor Emeritus Ed Lightfoot, who passed away at age 92 on October 2, 2017, was a member of Harrison’s thesis advisory committee.
