CEE capstone projects capture $10,000 awards

Written By: Tom Ziemer

For the second straight year, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has won two $10,000 Engineering Education Awards from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying for projects from its senior capstone design course.

In both projects, undergraduate students worked with public partners to identify solutions to environmental challenges.

Connor Acker, Emma Connell, Morgan Keck, Brooke Marten and Robin Ritchey partnered with Juda School in rural Green County to propose a renewable energy system for the building.

Evan Beyer, Tim Kuzmic, Andrew Miller, Simon Schiferl and Natalie Teschendorf collaborated with Madison city officials to design a modification to a city well facility to safeguard it from groundwater pollution.

Professor Greg Harrington, Professor of Practice Charles Quagliana, Adjunct Professor Jan Kucher and Adjunct Professor Mark Oleinik lead the senior capstone course, which offers undergraduates the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to real client projects.
